Policies & Procedures

The Jane Cameron National Archives is a professionally run and organised facility that adheres to best archival practice and procedures. We have a range of policies that detail our procedures for selecting, caring, preserving and providing access to our collections. We are always happy to answer questions or explain how our service supports the history of the Falkland Islands.

Collections Development & Acquisition

This policy sets out and defines the basis and collections criteria for accepting new material. As well as setting out what we do/do not collect, it also outlines how we interact with people who wish to donate or gift records to the Archives, and how we seek to actively expand our collections.

To support those who are considering donating material, we have developed guidance on the documentation we complete when accepting new items.

Collections Information

As records are added to the Archives, we collect and identify information about the records that will support their long term management and use. This policy details the information we collect, and highlights how it is valuable to researchers and staff alike.

Access

Access ensures that maximum use can be made of the records and helps us to promote the history of the Islands. Our policy informs people how the service provides access to its collections, covering both onsite and offsite through in-person appointments, enquiries, organised tours and on social media.

We have rules that we expect visitors to abide to when conducting research physically at the Archives or, when provided permission from us, filming archival material and spaces in the building.

Volunteering

Volunteers make huge contributions to enriching our collections and we are grateful to anyone in the community who has an interest in supporting projects. This policy details what volunteers can expect from us, what arrangements we have in place to support them, and how people can get invloved either in person or as remote volunteers.
